SuperSonic presents a new concert series focusing on new and original music in the Brisbane jazz/improvised/experimental scenes. For this third installment, we will be presenting two contrasting trios both in style and approach to composition and improvisation. These are Helen Svoboda’s neo-classical/minimalist outfit Sprout as well as free jazz/free improvisation trio Richardson/Pankhurst/Green. This performance will also be the launch of the debut Sprout album “Hectic Moon” via SuperSonic and Green Chimneys Records.

Sunday May 6th // Black Bear Lodge
Doors at 5pm // Bands from 6pm

Album pre-sales available NOW via the below link:

Helen Svoboda presents ‘Sprout’. The trio was formed to explore a new direction of composition, influenced largely by minimalist music infused with moments of structured improvisation. The blend of the double bass and cello has opened up a world of fresh sonic possibilities, creating a rich blend of texture and counter-melodic interaction beneath the percussive nature of the piano. Their recently recorded album, ‘Hectic Moon’, is comprised entirely of original material, with an array of strange track titles that hold little to no connection to each respective work.

Sprout are:
Helen Svoboda (Double Bass & Compositions)
Sophie Min (Piano)
Simon Svoboda (Cello)

Three of Brisbane’s most creative and passionate musicians, Jack Richardson (guitar), Samuel Pankhurst (bass) and Timothy Green (drums) will come together to present a set of improvised music, rooted in the past but performed whilst ever so present in the now.

Between them, Jack, Sam and Tim have performed with such world renowned artist as Allen Browne, Scott Tinkler, Erik Griswold, Vanessa Tomlinson, Louis Burdett, Jim Denley, Barre Phillips and Frode Gjerstard to name an eclectic few.

These three are also members and leaders of some of Brisbane and Australia’s finest bands/projects including; Superfeather, the Australian Art Orchestra, The Wild, SPHERE CUCK, Porscha, jive canyon, Sour Peach Plum, The Grates and many more.

This event will feature one set of music from each group as well as interstitial music from GCR DJ’s.
